34th Official Great Aussie Pie Competition Results

We found the Greatest Aussie Pie, Sauage Roll, and Pastie – It’s Official!

Last week at Fine Food Australia more than 1,500 pies, sausage rolls, and pasties from bakeries, butchers, cafés, and restaurants around Australia were judged by a panel of qualified and experienced judges in the 34th Official Great Aussie Pie Comp.

Paradise Bakehouse from Innes Park, Queensland received the Best Plain Pie Title, whilst Rolling Pin Pies & Cake from Ocean Grove, Victoria received the Gourmet Pie Title. The Plain Sausage Roll title winner was Jack’s Bakery from Halls Head, Western Australia, with the Gourmet Sausage Roll title going to New York Cakes from Miranda, New South Wales. The new Traditional Pastie Title was taken out by Banana Boggie Bakery from Belair, South Australia.

“This year has been the biggest Aussie Pie Comp so far,” said competition organiser Dani Lindsay from the Aussie Pie Council. “Well done to all who have entered, we are blown away by the quality of this year’s entries and look forward to many more pie comps to come.”

The Official Great Aussie Pie Comp is the longest-running and largest pie, sausage roll, and pastie competition in Australia. After 34 years of competition, the Aussie Pie Council have developed a strong understanding of what makes a good pie resulting in a genuine unbiased list of winning entries. Aussie Pie Comp judges are industry professionals with extensive judging experience following a process that is second to none and non-biased. Each entry receives valuable feedback from the judges themselves which means we are genuinely contributing to the improvement of Australian pie, sausage roll, and pastie industry standards.

This year the competition was sponsored by EOI Bakery, Fine Food Australia, Simple Simon Pie Machines, National Baking Industry Association, Complete Display Equipment, Unox, Pork Australia, Well and Good, Heinz, Manildra Group, and Dunbrae Bakery Solutions. Without these businesses, the Official Great Aussie Pie Competition wouldn’t be possible. A special thank you goes out to Shaun Pyne from Pyney’s Pie Reviews for assisting this year’s judges.
