We are excited to launch the Baking Career Website a new online resource to assist with promoting the baking career path. We have been working with the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, National Retail Association (NRA), Bakers Delight, Brumby’s, Banjo’s, and the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, to promote the baking career pathway to employment service providers, community groups, careers advisors, school careers counsellors, online communities, and industry representatives.
In 2022, we learned about our target audience and launched our industry job board and promoted it via a webinar and various online marketing channels. According to statistics obtained by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, there was a slight increase in the number of bakery related jobs filled, however the staff shortage still exists. We encourage you to continue listing baking jobs on the Baking Industry Job Board as it is free and is a great platform for job seekers to find all available jobs in the one location.
This year we are taking the next step by providing resources and information about what is involved in becoming a baker / pastrycook. In addition, we will also be attending several career expos to promote the baking career job path directly to careers advisors, school careers counsellors, and the students themselves.
To do this we have built the Baking Career Website to answer as many questions as possible about the baking career path. The website explains things like what attributes are needed to be a baker, what life as a baker is like, how to start an apprenticeship, and where to look for a job. A collection of resources such as posters and brochures are also available for download and will be handed out at career expos with the plan to develop more soon.
We encourage you to check out the Baking Career Website and provide feedback so that we can continue to build this great industry resource. If you would like to get involved please contact the NBIA on 1300 557 022 or via email at nbia@nbia.org.au and let us know what you love most about being a baker and if you have any words of wisdom for anyone thinking of becoming a baker.
