2023 King of Bakers Bread Show - Toowoomba Royal Show

2023 Toowoomba Royal Show King of Bakers Bread Show

The 2023 King of Bakers Bread Show and presentation dinner was held on Friday 3 March at the Toowoomba Showgrounds. As a long-term sponsor for the event the National Baking Industry Association (NBIA) was proud to attended and work with the Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland to recognise and reward excellence in baking.

This year’s competition included 43 categories across bread, cakes, meat pies, sausage rolls, pasties, lamingtons, lemon tarts, and donuts. Major awards included the King of Bakers Championship, Most Successful Cake Exhibitor (sponsored by All About Bakery Equipment), Most Successful Bread Exhibitor (sponsored by Australian Bakels), Most Successful 1st and 2nd Year Apprentice (sponsored by Woolworths Supermarkets), Most Successful 3rd and 4th Year Apprentice (sponsored by Woolworths Supermarkets), Best Speciality Bread (sponsored by Kialla Pure Foods), Champion Loaf (sponsored by Lesaffre Australia), Commercial Bread (sponsored by Mauri), Toowoomba Cup (sponsored by Moffat Bakery Equipment), and Feature Product of the Show (sponsored by TRS Refrigeration and Catering Equipment). Regional awards included the Regional Shield (sponsored by Allied Pinnacle), Regional Bread Award (sponsored by NBIA), and the Regional Cake Award (sponsored by Manildra Group).

Judging commenced at 9am and with more than 700 individual entries the judges had a big day ahead of themselves. Chief Steward Mark Dennien said “It’s been another very successful year for the 2023 King of Bakers Bread Show here in Toowoomba, the entrants have really raised the quality bar this year. A Double Married Loaf, one of the more traditional product categories, takes a high degree of skill to produce and has proven to be the pinnacle of this year’s show”.

The presentation dinner started at 5.30pm with roughly 80 attendees from various local bakeries, sponsors, and a number of competitors from Brisbane and even Byron Bay! The popularity of this baking show is a tribute to the excellent manner by which it is run. A pleasant evening was experienced by all who attended with a delicious two course meal and lots of cheering, congratulating, and catching up. Congratulations to all who competed and to the winners of the major and regional awards. Below are the major award and regional winners and the full results.
