Good quality and great flavour in Whittlesea

This month the NBIA spoke to Bakery Manager Adrian Caporetto from Whittlesea Bakehouse about awards, happy customers, and what he loves most about being a baker.

Whittlesea Bakehouse is an award-winning bakery located in Whittlesea a suburb north of Melbourne. This traditional bakery produces a broad range of baked goods including bread, cakes, cookies, donuts, pies, sausage rolls, tarts, slices, cake pops, meringues, croissants, and more.

A family-owned business, Whittlesea Bakehouse has served holiday makers and locals for more than 22 Years resulting in a strong following of happy customers and numerous 5-star reviews. These reviews tell of a huge range of high-quality baked goods with good flavour, great coffee, and a busy but a clean environment.

When it comes to awards Whittlesea Bakehouse has received more than their fair share for their pies, sausage rolls, vanilla slice, and fruit flan, to name a few. In 2022, they won the major plain mince pie title in the Official Great Aussie Pie Competition along with receiving four gold, two silver, and two bronze medals in various categories. Some of their most popular pie flavours include Cheeseburger Pie, Ned Kelly Pie, Red Meat Steak & Pepper Pie, and the local favourite Whittlesea Pie which jam packed with chunky steak (12hr slow cooked brisket) caramelised onions, pepper and cheese. 

For the past 15 years Adrian has worked at Whittlesea Bakehouse as Bakery Manager creating beautiful food and flavours to pass on to the customers. He says, “I really enjoy making the pies. It’s something you can create new flavours with and have a bit of fun at the same time”.

As a seasoned baker Adrian offers the following advice to those looking to start their own baking business or begin a career in baking. “You need to be willing to work hard, early starts, and some long hours. Love what you do and enjoy creating flavours that taste amazing.”
