A taste of France in South Australia

We spoke to Owner and Pastry Chef, Keva Freeman, about her career, her Adelaide based patisserie and what she loves most about being a baker.

Keva’s baking career began more than 20 years ago after discovering a love of baking while working in the bakery section of an Adelaide suburban supermarket. After resigning, she commenced full time study of a Certificate III in Baking and Breadmaking at Regency TAFE then took an apprenticeship at a patisserie in Adelaide’s inner south. Keva then worked at various high-end hotels and resorts throughout Australia before taking the giant leap to Europe where she continued to perfect her patisserie skills. Keva’s travels took her to France, the United Kingdom, and Scotland where she exposed her tastebuds to various flavours and learned hands on skills in the art of pastry before returning to home to open her own business, Sucre Patisserie.

Sucre Patisserie is a click-and-collect patisserie located in St Morris, South Australia specialising in the production of delicious pastries and other sweet treats using traditional French recipes and techniques. Sucre Patisserie uses locally sourced fresh high-quality ingredients to create delicious morsels from scratch.

Keva’s personal favourite is the Éclair due to the delicate nature of the choux pastry and the versatility of flavours and fillings used to complete the delicious treat. From Croquembouche and Entremets to Eclairs and Macarons, the variety available at Sucre Patisserie is visually stunning, flavour-filled, and a true attribute to Keva’s French Patisserie skills.

As an experienced baker Keva also shares her passion for traditional French Patisserie recipes and techniques by offering small group classes to armatures or more experienced bakers. Keva’s advice to others looking to start a career in baking is “to stand out with innovative and high-quality products, find your niche, find a mentor, and be willing to work hard”.

Sucre Patisserie is très chic and evokes the true essence of France right here in Australia. Those who would like to taste Keva’s delicious pastries and cakes can do so by purchasing online via the Sucre Patisserie website then picking them up from the shop, which is located at 397 Magill Road, St Morris, South Australia.
